living in the USA!
We made it!
We flew in Monday evening, after getting a lovely view of the mountains! On Tuesday we took Noe around to the bank, YMCA, pharmacy, Fred Meyers, and Richmond Beach, where we saw a shark washed up (dog fish). We got Noe a bike helmet so he can cruise around while I work, until he gets his SSN to be able to work himself.
Wednesday Noe went with my family to the parade, then we met up after I got off work to go to Tracy's house for a barbq and view of the Lake Union fireworks.
Today I'm back in the groove with working, but soon we'll be on vacation in Chelan with the Holzknecht family (next week).
My lungs are suffering quite a bit from the firewood burning that I withstood during Noe's going-away party in his town, but otherwise my trip to El Salvador was fun, but quick. I was not able to let my town of San Miguel know that I would be coming by until the day I went, but even then I only got through to one phone. I visited Nina Reyna and her family (what a surprise for her-I walked up to her house and caught her cooking!). We also visited Nina Hilda's family (and Fani's 6 cats...), my friend Edgardo, Nina Pastora, and of course Mirna and her son Jefferson, who is now "afraid of strangers". We were only there from about 11am to 4pm, and everywhere we went, people wanted to stuff us full of food and coca cola. We ate with Nina Reyna, but were not able to deny the coca cola at the other houses (it would have been rude). I saw the new PCV from a distance, but was not able to converse with him about his work in the community. On Friday we went to the Metapan Fiestas Patronales and saw firworks at Biggest. Saturday we did the barbq and Sunday headed to San Salvador to the national soccer playoff final game, where our Metapan team won (beat Firpo 1-0 in the last 5 seconds of overtime)!!
Anyway, we're now in the states and I've been teaching Noe about all the interesting things we Americans have, such as how to use the microwave, vaccuum cleaner, swiffer mop, washer/dryer, flush toilet, hot water shower, garage opener, etc.
Have a good one,
Tara
